how to hijack culture
an example, an insight, & an opportunity for you
Hey — Eric here.
If you’re new… each week I send a breakdown, a strategy, or a tip to help you grow your audience and business using short form content.
Before we get into this week’s idea, a quick opportunity for the holidays:
If you want to work with me to level up your content, you can earn complementary access to the next cohort of Story30 ($800 value) by referring five people to this email list.
If you know founders, brand builders, or creators who would enjoy these weekly breakdowns, use this link to invite them.
Once you hit five, you’ll get a code to join the next cohort for free.
Alright, let’s get into this week’s breakdown.
How To Hijack Culture
Last week, Timothee Chalamet posted a clip of himself pitching a string of terrible ideas to promote his upcoming Marty Supreme movie.
It was framed like a leaked meeting, and it spread everywhere because people couldn’t tell if it was real.
The energy was real, the setting felt familiar, and the strong persona with “great ideas” resonates with anyone whose spent time in corporate.
The video was hilarious, but what I found interesting was what Nude Project did with it.
They clipped the original scene and edited it to look like Timothee was pitching ideas directly to their team.
It felt playful, believable, and was timed perfectly.
They used the video to promote a huge Black Friday launch, and the edit tied the brand directly into one of the biggest cultural moments of the week.
This is a great example of how to insert your brand into a cultural moment without forcing it.
It works because the edit feels native, the tone matches the original, and the brand does not take itself too seriously.
“Newsjacking” is not a full content strategy, but it can be a powerful tool when used sparingly.
Keep an eye on conversations your audience is paying attention to, and ask yourself whether there is a way to add something original, clever, or useful to the moment.
When it fits, it can earn you a wave of new attention in a matter of hours.
Hope this sparks something for you.
Rooting for ya,
Dodds
